Monday – Friday between the hours of 0800 – 18:00 – 40 hours a week.

Job Role/Description

The Bennie Group are looking for a Management Accountant to join the Group finance team. Reporting to the Group Director, Finance, you will be an integral part of the team within the finance department and supporting the senior leadership team across our multiple trading businesses. You will have core responsibilities for timely accounts preparation and supporting business reporting and analysis to aid decision making.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, motivation, the ability to pick up multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and manage multiple stakeholders and activities at once.

Ideally you will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a background or experience within the Construction / Contracting, Equipment or Manufacturing sectors. The role would suit a candidate who has strong interpersonal skills, someone who builds relationships at all levels with ease. You will have a track record in a similar level role within a finance team. You will possess strong quantitative and analytical skills and have an innovative approach to problem solving. You will have a high-level attention to detail and have ability to identify any accounting irregularities and underlying cause, ensuring appropriate teams are be alerted to these issues to enable corrective action if needed. Above all you will be a team player and have the desire to be hands on and proactive in the role. This role would suit a candidate who can work in an agile and fast changing environment who enjoys variety.

Responsibilities

In the role you will work closely with the Group Director for Finance and Finance Manager, as well as stakeholders across the group trading businesses. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • The preparation of monthly financial statements for specific business units, including P&L, balance sheet and supporting reconciliations
  • Ensuring financial and management reporting: 
    • Is completed in an accurate and timely manner,  
    • Is understood and appropriate analysis of business unit profit centre performance. 
    • Is reviewed against business unit targets and budgets / forecasts. 
    • Is continually reviewed for areas of improvement.  
    • Complies with appropriate accounting standards.
  • Supporting monthly Group Consolidation process. 
  • Supporting cash flow management and forecasting. 
  • Stock accounting and valuations, including stock take process.
  • Supporting group statutory audits for specific business units.  
  • Monitoring transactional accuracy of sales, purchases, wages, expenses, journals are entered into the accounting system and appropriate reconciliation, working with teams continually to improve data quality.
  • Compliance of PAYE and VAT transaction recording and reconciliation and on time submission of returns to HMRC. 
  • Internal auditing of key risk areas of the business, predominantly, inventory of materials, equipment etc. 

 The above list of responsibilities is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post. 

Competencies

  • Previous experience in a Financial Accountant role. 
  • Ideally the candidate will be a Qualified Accountant with at least 3-5 years post qualification. 
  • Practice Experience; strong experience of group businesses and Intercompany recharging 
  • Project Accounting / Job Costing experience is desired 
  • Experience with working with Senior leadership on a regular basis and provide clear, concise accurate information. 
  • Strong IT skills and experience of Excel, and Office 365. 
  • Sage 200 knowledge is essential. 
  • Strong communication skills with both, external and internal stakeholders.
