Job Role/Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Support Engineer to join our team at Head Office. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in Windows and Microsoft 365, along with a solid foundation in basic networking and IT security.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with exposure to firewalls, Microsoft Intune, and ERP/CRM systems, especially within manufacturing or production environments.

Approximately 80% of the role will focus on IT support and administration, including managing support tickets, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining systems. The remaining time will be dedicated to small-scale projects and continuous improvement initiatives, such as system upgrades, process automation, and technology enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support Active Directory, Office 365, Windows Server, and other core systems.
  • Administer user accounts, access permissions, and security settings.
  • Diagnose and resolve network issues including LAN, WAN, and VPN connectivity.
  • Maintain IT documentation, including procedures, asset inventory, and incident logs.
  • Liaise with 3rd party vendors and service providers for issue resolution or project support.
  • Support software deployment, system upgrades, and IT projects as needed.
  • Ensure tickets are updated and closed in a timely manner according to SLA targets.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and support to both onsite and remote users.

Competencies

  • Windows Server & Active Directory: User/group management, basic GPOs, file/print services.
  • Office 365 / Microsoft 365: User and license admin, troubleshooting, Teams/SharePoint config.
  • Endpoint Management: Deploying, updating laptops, desktops, tablets.
  • Basic Networking: VLANs, DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi, troubleshooting connectivity.
  • Security Fundamentals: Patch management, MFA, antivirus/EDR (e.g., Sophos).
  • Backup & DR: Understands backup solutions, basic restore/testing.
  • Vendor Support: Knows how to log tickets/escalate with 3rd parties and hold them accountable.

Desirable

  • Firewalls/Security Appliances: (e.g., Sophos Central, basic policy management).
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • MDM (Intune, etc.): Device policies, onboarding/offboarding mobiles/tablets
  • Project Delivery: Has supported or delivered at least one system upgrade, migration, or rollout
  • Process Improvement: Has spotted a recurring problem and improved/fixed it for the business
  • Cloud Platform Familiarity: Some Microsoft Entra ID (AAD, basic policies), SharePoint site config, SaaS integrations
  • Confident troubleshooting Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, VOIP, Windows Server/Desktop, networking (TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls)
  • Able to balance priorities, think on your feet, and own issues through to resolution
  • A clear communicator who builds trust with customers
  • Confident using multiple points of contact to resolve customer queries
  • Full UK Driving Licence (Occasional driving UK wide may be required, when assisting senior IT team with various IT projects and tasks).
